Belgium is wildly underrated for family travel

👋 Hey lovely travellers,

Belgium is one of those destinations that doesn’t always make the top of the list…

But it probably should.

It’s compact, easy to travel between, and filled with places that feel straight out of a storybook.

🇧🇪 Why Belgium works with kids

  • Short travel distances between cities
  • Walkable, manageable town centres
  • Relaxed pace compared to bigger destinations
  • Plenty of open spaces + squares for kids to roam

📍 Where to go

👉 Brussels → central base, easy to explore
👉 Bruges → canals, cobblestones, total fairytale feel
👉 Flanders Fields → meaningful, reflective experience

🗺️ How to plan it

Belgium is perfect for a slow, multi-stop itinerary:

  • Base in Brussels
  • Add 1–2 nights in Bruges
  • Day trips in between

Minimal travel time, maximum variety.

🧠 Family Travel Tip of the Week: Short travel days matter more than you think.

When you’re planning a multi-stop trip, the time between places matters just as much as the destinations.

Aim for:

  • journeys under 2 hours
  • simple, direct routes
  • midday transfers (not early mornings or late nights)

Because travel days with kids aren’t “in-between” — they shape the entire experience.

❤️ Thanks for being here

Thanks for being part of this wild, messy, magical community of families who still choose adventure — even with snack demands, prams, and jet‑lagged babies in tow.

Wherever you're heading next (even if it’s just to daycare drop‑off), I’m cheering you on.

See you next Thursday,
Emma

Done well, it’s one of the most rewarding (and surprisingly manageable) trips you can take as a family. 🇫🇷 How to think about France Instead of trying to “see France” — pick a style of trip: City (Paris) Coast (French Riviera) Day trips (Versailles) And build around that. 📍 Where to go 👉 Paris → iconic, but best at a slower pace 👉 Versailles → easy day trip, plenty of...
