How to do European cities with kids (without the overwhelm)

👋 Hey lovely travellers,

European cities can feel intimidating with kids.

Big sights, long days, crowded itineraries…

But the truth is — they’re some of the most rewarding trips you can take if you approach them differently.

🌍 The key shift

You’re not trying to see everything.

You’re creating a version of that city that works for your family.

📍 Cities that work beautifully with kids

👉 Rome → history + open spaces + surprisingly relaxed
👉 Paris → parks, bakeries, slow wandering
👉 Berlin → playgrounds + space + easy transport
👉 Zurich → clean, calm, super manageable
👉 Brussels → compact + great food
👉 Stockholm → family-friendly, easy pace

🗺️ How to approach city travel

Instead of packing your days:

  • Pick 1–2 key activities per day
  • Build in downtime (parks, cafés, hotel breaks)
  • Stay somewhere central to reduce travel

🧠 Family Travel Tip of the Week: anchor each day around one “main event.”

Trying to do too much in a city is what makes it feel overwhelming.

Instead:

  • Choose one highlight each day
  • Everything else becomes optional

This creates structure without pressure.

And the unexpected benefit?
You start enjoying the in-between moments — the wandering, the snacks, the exploring — which are often what kids remember most.

❤️ Thanks for being here

Thanks for being part of this wild, messy, magical community of families who still choose adventure — even with snack demands, prams, and jet‑lagged babies in tow.

Wherever you're heading next (even if it’s just to daycare drop‑off), I’m cheering you on.

See you next Thursday,
Emma

👋 Hey lovely travellers, Whether you're a Disneyland purist, a DisneySea convert, or someone who has genuinely lost sleep deciding which park to prioritise with a toddler in tow — this week I'm taking you to Tokyo Disney Resort, snacks and all. We did both parks. With a baby AND a threenager. And somehow lived to tell the tale (and write 8,000 words about it, apparently). Here's your Tokyo Disney inspo to make the planning way easier. 🎠 Tokyo Disney With Kids 🏰 Tokyo Disney Magic: a family...

👋 Hey lovely travellers, France is one of those destinations that can feel… ambitious with kids. But it doesn’t have to be. Done well, it’s one of the most rewarding (and surprisingly manageable) trips you can take as a family. 🇫🇷 How to think about France Instead of trying to “see France” — pick a style of trip: City (Paris) Coast (French Riviera) Day trips (Versailles) And build around that. 📍 Where to go 👉 Paris → iconic, but best at a slower pace 👉 Versailles → easy day trip, plenty of...

👋 Hey lovely travellers, Belgium is one of those destinations that doesn’t always make the top of the list… But it probably should. It’s compact, easy to travel between, and filled with places that feel straight out of a storybook. 🇧🇪 Why Belgium works with kids Short travel distances between cities Walkable, manageable town centres Relaxed pace compared to bigger destinations Plenty of open spaces + squares for kids to roam What kid isn't going to love a Belgian waffle in Brussels? 📍 Where...
