Blue Mountains vs Hunter Valley: pick your NSW escape

👋 Hey lovely travellers,

Two classic Sydney escapes, properly covered this time instead of just a quick mention. The Blue Mountains gets the deep dive it deserves, and Hunter Valley gets an honest “yes, even with kids” verdict.

🚗 Blue Mountains & Hunter Valley

🏔️ Things to Do in the Blue Mountains with Kids
My answer to “is it worth visiting with kids” is yes, full stop, no caveats. Flat lookouts right next to the car park, a theme-park-style day at Scenic World, and enough variety to build the whole day around nap schedules.

🗺️ 17 Hidden Gems in the Blue Mountains
For once you’ve ticked off the Three Sisters and want the quieter spots. The Pool of Siloam makes a great “spot the waterfall” mission for kids, and Govetts Leap at sunrise is significantly less crowded than the main lookouts.

🍇 Two Days Exploring New South Wales’ Hunter Valley Region
A gorgeous weekend away, kid-free or otherwise. Plenty of wineries now do kid-friendly tastings and lawn games if you’re bringing the whole crew, or save it for a date weekend if you’d rather not.

🧠 Family Travel Tip of the Week: Match the Trip to Who’s Coming

Not every NSW day trip needs the same approach.

⭐ Bringing the kids: Blue Mountains wins, Scenic World and flat lookouts do a lot of heavy lifting
⭐ Date weekend, no kids: Hunter Valley wineries are built for exactly this
⭐ Bringing kids to Hunter Valley anyway: stick to the wineries explicitly offering kids’ tastings and lawn games, check ahead

Pick the trip that suits who’s actually in the car, not just what’s closest to Sydney.

🚗 The Best Day Trips from Sydney
If Blue Mountains and Hunter Valley have you in the mood for more escapes, this is the full round up, from pelican feeding to tulip season in Bowral.

❤️ Thanks for being here

Sometimes the best trip is the one that’s two hours away and doesn’t need a single flight booked. See you in November, where I promise there’s some exciting Christmas destination news coming.

See you next Thursday,
Emma

👋 Hey lovely travellers, Every year around this time my inbox fills up with the same question: where should we actually go for the Christmas holidays. So instead of answering it one at a time, here’s my shortlist. 👋 Hey lovely travellers, We’re closing out the French Riviera series with the two towns everyone asks about and forgets to actually visit: Monaco and Grasse, plus the hilltop village I somehow haven’t sent you yet. 🌍 French Riviera: the last stops 🎰 How to Have the Perfect Day Trip in Monaco Yes, with kids.
