My Christmas getaway shortlist (book now, thank me later)

👋 Hey lovely travellers,

Every year around this time my inbox fills up with the same question: where should we actually go for the Christmas holidays. So instead of answering it one at a time, here’s my shortlist.

Warm, kid-friendly, and not fully booked out yet (probably).

🌞 Christmas Getaway Shortlist

🇲🇹 Malta With Kids: Everything You Need to Know
Small enough to not feel overwhelming, warm enough for proper beach days, and quiet enough in December that you won’t be fighting the whole of Europe for a sun lounger. This was one of our biggest surprises this year.

🇮🇹 Puglia with Kids: Explore Italy’s Best Region
Monopoli’s whitewashed laneways and calm beaches make this one of the gentlest Mediterranean options going, cobblestones for the pram nap included.

🇸🇬 One Week in Singapore with Kids: A Relaxed Family Itinerary
If snow isn’t your thing and you want Christmas lights without the cold, Singapore goes all out for the season and most of the best bits are blessedly air conditioned.

🇫🇯 The Best Things To Do On A Fiji Holiday
A handful of hours from most of the east coast of Australia and about as low-effort as a family Christmas gets, resort pools, kids clubs, and an actual chance of the adults finishing a drink while it’s still cold. The resort and island day trip picks in here are worth a look if you’re deciding where to base yourselves.

🧠 Family Travel Tip of the Week: Book It Like You Mean It

Christmas holidays in the southern hemisphere means everyone else is trying to book the same window you are.

⭐ If a destination’s on your shortlist, lock in flights now, not “after we decide for sure”
⭐ Accommodation in small destinations (looking at you, Malta) gets tight fast over December
⭐ Undecided is fine, unbooked for six more weeks is less fine

I’ve learned this one the hard way more than once.

⭐ Featured Post of the Week

🧭 Take the quiz: What’s your family travel type?
Still torn between a few of these? I built a two minute quiz that’ll narrow it down, more on that next week too.

❤️ Thanks for being here

Not every Christmas needs tinsel and a roast to feel festive. Sometimes it just needs sand, a cold drink, and nobody asking you to host.

See you next Thursday,
Emma

xoxo

👋 Hey lovely travellers, Two classic Sydney escapes, properly covered this time instead of just a quick mention. The Blue Mountains gets the deep dive it deserves, and Hunter Valley gets an honest “yes, even with kids” verdict. 🚗 Blue Mountains & Hunter Valley 🏔️ Things to Do in the Blue Mountains with Kids My answer to “is it worth visiting with kids” is yes, full stop, no caveats. Flat lookouts right next to the car park, a theme-park-style day at Scenic World, and enough variety to build...

Historic hilltop village with green trees under a blue sky

👋 Hey lovely travellers, We’re closing out the French Riviera series with the two towns everyone asks about and forgets to actually visit: Monaco and Grasse, plus the hilltop village I somehow haven’t sent you yet. 🌍 French Riviera: the last stops 🎰 How to Have the Perfect Day Trip in Monaco Yes, with kids. Pay less than two euros, hop on a bus, and you’re in another country within the hour, novelty alone usually buys you good behaviour for at least twenty minutes. The Oceanographic Museum is...

👋 Hey lovely travellers, Spring in Sydney means one thing: wildly unpredictable weather. So this week isn’t about a destination, it’s about the backup plan. Three indoor wins from three different trips, for whenever the sky decides to ruin your outdoor plans.
