Sand, not stones: our French Riviera beach guide

👋 Hey lovely travellers,

September on the French Riviera is the sweet spot. The crowds have thinned out, the water's still warm enough to swim in, and you don't need to fight a busload of cruise passengers for a spot on the sand. This week I'm covering the two easiest beach towns to do with kids in tow, plus the one that might just be the most relaxed of the lot.

🏖️ French Riviera Beach Towns

🎨 Antibes with Kids: A Family Day Trip on the French Riviera
The middle child of the Riviera, and exactly what you want when small humans melt down at too much going on. A free Picasso's Trail walk that doubles as a spotting game, and Juan les Pins, which might be the best sandy beach on this whole coast for little ones.

🎬 Is Cannes worth visiting with kids? An honest day trip guide
Red carpets and yachts aside, Cannes has real sand and a genuinely fun handprint scavenger hunt along the Allée des Étoiles. Save the Le Suquet stair climb for a day everyone's had a good breakfast.

⛵ An Unmissable Day Trip To Villefranche-sur-Mer
The gentlest of the three. Pretty beaches, an easy wander through the old town, and a Citadelle you can explore for free with sweeping harbour views if anyone still has the energy.

🧠 Family Travel Tip of the Week: The Sand vs Pebbles Rule

Not every French Riviera beach is created equal when you've got little feet involved. Before you commit to a beach day, check which one you're getting.

⭐ Sandy and forgiving: Antibes (Juan les Pins), Cannes
⭐ Pebbly, better for older kids or water shoes: Nice, Villefranche, Menton
⭐ Bring the water shoes anyway, just in case: everywhere else

Nobody wants a meltdown over stones in shoes twenty minutes into the day.

⭐ Featured Post of the Week

🌅 Things to do in Nice, France: food, beaches & family‑friendly highlights
If Nice is your Riviera home base (and for most families, it should be), this is the one to read before you land. Old Town wandering, a pram-friendly stretch of the Promenade des Anglais, and honest advice on which day trips are worth the effort and which ones to skip.

❤️ Thanks for being here

Wherever your family's headed this month, even if it's just the beach at the end of your own street, I hope it involves a lot less stress and a lot more sand.

See you next Thursday,
Emma

👋 Hey lovely travellers, Every year around this time my inbox fills up with the same question: where should we actually go for the Christmas holidays. So instead of answering it one at a time, here’s my shortlist. 👋 Hey lovely travellers, Two classic Sydney escapes, properly covered this time instead of just a quick mention. The Blue Mountains gets the deep dive it deserves, and Hunter Valley gets an honest “yes, even with kids” verdict. 🚗 Blue Mountains & Hunter Valley 🏔️ Things to Do in the Blue Mountains with Kids My answer to “is it worth visiting with kids” is yes, full stop, no caveats. Flat lookouts right next to the car park, a theme-park-style day at Scenic World, and enough variety to build...

Historic hilltop village with green trees under a blue sky

👋 Hey lovely travellers, We’re closing out the French Riviera series with the two towns everyone asks about and forgets to actually visit: Monaco and Grasse, plus the hilltop village I somehow haven’t sent you yet. 🌍 French Riviera: the last stops 🎰 How to Have the Perfect Day Trip in Monaco Yes, with kids. Pay less than two euros, hop on a bus, and you’re in another country within the hour, novelty alone usually buys you good behaviour for at least twenty minutes. The Oceanographic Museum is...
