The Sydney getaway that doesn't need a passport

👋 Hey lovely travellers,

Sometimes you don't need a passport, you just need two hours in the car and a decent playlist. This week I'm rounding up some of the best weekend escapes from Sydney, whether you're bringing the kids or sneaking off without them.

Here's your Sydney getaway inspo.

🚗 Weekend Escapes From Sydney

🍇 Two Days in the Hunter Valley
Wineries, rolling hills and golden hour views, all a very manageable two hours from Sydney. A gorgeous weekend away, kid-free or otherwise.

🌊 It's the Bather's Way in Newcastle, Australia
A stunning coastal walk and an easy weekend base, with the Hunter Valley just a short drive further inland if you want to combine both.

🗺️ The Best Day Trips from Sydney
Beyond the Hunter Valley, this rounds up more weekend-worthy spots within easy reach of the city, from foodie towns to scenic drives.

🧠 Family Travel Tip of the Week: The "Two Hour Rule"

Big international trips are wonderful, but they're not the only way to feel like you've actually been somewhere.

⭐ Anything within a two-hour drive counts as a proper getaway. Treat it like one.

Examples:
🚗 Book actual accommodation, not just a day trip, even if it's close
🍷 Pack like you're away, not like you're popping out for the day
📵 Leave the "we're basically still at home" mindset behind

Distance doesn't determine how much a trip resets you.

⭐ Featured Post of the Week

A weekend in Berry, NSW

Charming historic buildings, picturesque scenery and a thriving foodie scene that caters to all ages and tastes. At only 2 hours drive from Sydney, Berry is the perfect weekend away.

❤️ Thanks for being here

Thanks for being part of this wild, messy, magical community of families who know a good weekend away doesn't need to be far to feel like a proper escape.

Wherever you're heading next (even if it's just around the block for a pram walk), I'm cheering you on.

See you next Thursday,
Emma

👋 Hey lovely travellers, Every year around this time my inbox fills up with the same question: where should we actually go for the Christmas holidays. So instead of answering it one at a time, here’s my shortlist. Warm, kid-friendly, and not fully booked out yet (probably). 🌞 Christmas Getaway Shortlist 🇲🇹 Malta With Kids: Everything You Need to Know Small enough to not feel overwhelming, warm enough for proper beach days, and quiet enough in December that you won’t be fighting the whole of...

👋 Hey lovely travellers, Two classic Sydney escapes, properly covered this time instead of just a quick mention. The Blue Mountains gets the deep dive it deserves, and Hunter Valley gets an honest “yes, even with kids” verdict. 🚗 Blue Mountains & Hunter Valley 🏔️ Things to Do in the Blue Mountains with Kids My answer to “is it worth visiting with kids” is yes, full stop, no caveats. Flat lookouts right next to the car park, a theme-park-style day at Scenic World, and enough variety to build...

Historic hilltop village with green trees under a blue sky

👋 Hey lovely travellers, We’re closing out the French Riviera series with the two towns everyone asks about and forgets to actually visit: Monaco and Grasse, plus the hilltop village I somehow haven’t sent you yet. 🌍 French Riviera: the last stops 🎰 How to Have the Perfect Day Trip in Monaco Yes, with kids. Pay less than two euros, hop on a bus, and you’re in another country within the hour, novelty alone usually buys you good behaviour for at least twenty minutes. The Oceanographic Museum is...
